Summary

A summary of what we learned in the Design Phase chapter.

When considering approaches to documentation, the actual method matters less than the wholeness of what is communicated. Whether you choose to use InVision Inspect versus flat styleguides, what is important is a design system that is effectively conveyed. We’re all inclined to work harder when we know what we’re working towards, and it’s your job as a designer to best elucidate what these end goals are in a comforting level of detail.

Now that you’ve defined a design system and produced mockups, it’s time to present these to your team or to the developers. This brings us to the Build Phase — where your designs will come to fruition, and you’ll be able to tweak and adjust your decisions in-flight.
